Martin to Play for Bowdoin
Trinity senior Emily Martin has made her college decision. The 5'11" forward will be attending and playing basketball at Bowdoin College.
Martin is one of the top rated players in the NHIAA Class of 2011. And she is headed to one of the best academic conferences (the NESCAC) in the entire country. Not only is Bowdoin an outstanding academic institution, but they are also a Division III women's basketball powerhouse. They have won 8 NESCAC titles in the last 10 years. The Polar Bears have also reached the D-III Elite Eight 5 times in the last 9 seasons. Impressive stuff.
Martin is a forward with a very well rounded game. She is an extremely fundamentally sound player. There's nothing flashy about her game, she just flat out plays had and gets the job done. Martin tough on the boards, has smooth moves in the low post, and also has a very good face-up game where she can either knock down the 15-18 foot jump shot or go by people off the dribble. Defensively she can guard players not only in the paint but out on the perimeter as well due to her combination of both size and quickness.
There are 2 other New Hampshire natives currently on the Bowdoin women's basketball roster. One of them is 5'10" forward Anna Prohl, a freshman from Kearsarge High School. I was impressed by Prohl's hustle, rebounding and knowledge of the game during the NH/VT Rotary Games this past summer. The other one is junior forward Alexa Barry who attended Cushing Academy prep school, but is from Rindge, NH.
Martin plans on studying biology at Bowdoin.
Congrats, and best of luck to Emily!
