Donovan Commits to RIC
The college basketball commitments just keep on coming for the girls Class of 2011 in New Hampshire. The latest is Alvirne senior Katie Donovan, who has recently made the decision to go to school and play basketball at Rhode Island College.
"Donovan has committed to Rhode Island College" said Alvirne head coach Steve Tracy. "It's a good fit for her."
Donovan is a very versatile player, she plays the game hard and she has the ability to score in bunches. She will be able to help the Anchormen (not named after the movie) in a number of ways. Donovan can play inside or out, but she is most comfortable on the wing where she can knock down shots either off the catch or the dribble. She is a natural scorer, and is also effective at driving to the rim and attacking the basket. She is also a capable defender, and due to her size and athleticism Donovan is able to defend nearly all 5 positions on the floor. What you have to like most about her game is that she always plays hard and always gives it her all.
Katie played her AAU ball for the NE Crusaders program, run by Kara Leary. Donovan is the 11th Crusader from the Class of 2011 to commit to play college basketball next season.
Rhode Island College is a Division III program who plays in the Little East Conference. They have started the 2010-2011 season off with an 8-2 record. RIC head coach Marcus Reilly was present at the Eastern Basketball Preseason Showcase, an event that Katie played in. The event was held right around the time Donovan made her decision to play for coach Reilly at RIC. The Anchormen roster already contains one other NH player. Courtney Morissette from Londonderry is currently a freshman forward for RIC.
Congratulations to Katie, and best of luck at Rhode Island College!
