All-State Teams Announced - Boys Basketball

All-State, Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards for each of the 4 divisions, boys and girls, were announced at the Granite games on Sunday at NHTI. Here are all of the winners on the boys side. I will post all of the girls basketball winners in a separate article. Both write-ups will also include some brief thoughts that I have on the teams. My Take
I will not go on another long-winded rant about how all of these awards should be voted on AFTER the tournament is completely over. I think I've made my stance on that issue pretty clear. In case you missed my article last year, here it is:

For the most part the selections this year were actually better and more accurate than in years past. A couple of things though that would surely be different if voting were to take place now rather than before the tournament:

-Caleb Donnelly would have made 1st team all-state in D-I over Dimitri Floras

-Lorne Lucas would have been D-III Coach of the Year and his Somersworth team would have had more than 1 all-state player. Matt Fauci and Pat Lavin should have both been AT LEAST honorable mentions in D-III.

-Jake Clement, who led his Lisbon team to the D-IV title isn't a first-teamer? I believe the hip phrase to use in this situation would be, "smh".

-Mike Mitchell definitely belongs on the 1st team in D-II. I know that would be 3 guys from the same team on there, but they all deserve it. The tough part would be deciding which player Mitchell would replace. Spirou obviously is a shoe-in. So who does he replace, Walker, Carney or Cordts? All 3 of them are deserving, but I'll give the nod to the guys who led their teams to UNH. So Carney is the top second-teamer on my ballot while Mitchell gets bumped to first-team.

-And speaking of Milford, how does Kyle Nelson not make the team? I know that would give the Spartans 4 all-staters, but Nelson definitely deserves at least an honorable mention spot.

-I won't comment on any of the Player of the Year selections as of yet. I will wait until I reveal my NH Notebook All-State and POY article to do that. Stay tuned!
