Jozokos Makes Verbal Commitment to UNC
Tate Jozokos is one of the best all-around athletes New Hampshire has produced in recent years. Even though he is only a sophomore, he has recently made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse for the University of North Carolina.
Jozokos is a 3 sport star who played football, basketball and lacrosse for Kingswood Regional High last year. He is currently a sophomore at the Governor's Academy, a prep school in Byfield, MA. It is not often that an athlete from NH goes on to play college sports at this high of a level, so this is a pretty big deal.
Once he's a senior, Jozokos will sign a National Letter of Intent to play LAX at UNC.
"He went to a showcase in Pennsylvania in November and had a great showing" said Tate's father Matt Jozokos, who has coached the Kingswood High lacrosse team in addition to being the school's football coach. "There were 50 division 1 schools there. From that point on, his AAU lacrosse coach started receiving calls. We visited Penn State, North Carolina, Virginia and Duke. We had planned to visit Syracuse but his decision was made. In the end, he felt like being a Tar Heel was the right fit."
As a freshman last year at Kingswood, not only did Tate make varsity in 3 different sports, but he was also a star player for all 3 teams. He was the starting quarterback for the football team, the starting point guard for the basketball team and also starred for the lacrosse team - as a freshman.
This year as a sophomore he's been at the Governor's Academy, where he has continued to play and excel at all 3 sports.
"All of the college coaches loved the fact that he was a 3 sport athlete" said Coach Jozokos. "Playing multiple sports pays off."
The Governor's Academy and North Carolina both have a rich tradition of winning in lacrosse. It's safe to say that Jozokos is in a very good position to succeed on the field over the next few years.
Congratulations to Tate, and best of luck at UNC!
