2 More Girls Headed to NE-10

The Northeast-10 is one of the most competitive Division II conferences in the country for women's basketball. And over the years the NHIAA has been a breeding ground for it, as a number of granite staters have gone on to not only play, but star as players in the NE-10.

There were 5 girls from the Class of 2011 who had already committed to NE-10 schools, and now you can add 2 more to that list. At the end of this year's high school basketball season, Alvirne High's Deanna "DJ" Purcell committed to Stonehill College. Meanwhile Angie Michalski from Inter-Lakes High has committed to Merrimack College.

Both Purcell and Michalski had tremendous high school careers. They were both first team all-state selections this year (Purcell in D-I, Michalski in D-III). And they were both 1,000 point scorers.

Purcell is a wing player who can flat out shoot the basketball. She has a quick release and exceptional accuracy, whether shooting off the dribble or the catch. She is also very effective in transition, where she can lead or finish on the break and always seems to make the right basketball play. The 5'10" Purcell is also an underrated passer and defender.

As a senior she lead the Broncos to the D-I semi-finals where they lost in a heart breaker to runners-up Londonderry. Her older sister Amandra plays basketball at Rivier College, and her younger sister Sandi is one of the state's top freshmen players.

At Stonehill, Purcell will play alongside former AAU teammate Ashley Gendron from Memorial High.

"Ashley is a good friend of mine" said Purcell. "I'm really looking forward to playing with her again."

Michalski starred at Inter-Lakes as a junior and senior after playing at the Holderness School her first 2 years. She is a 5'11" forward who can play inside or out. She has good strength which allows her to muscle inside for rebounds and points in the paint. But she also has the versatility to step outside and knock down shots as well as handle the basketball on the perimeter.

Michalski will be joining Kennett High's Allie Wagner in Merrimack College's 2011 recruiting class. She played AAU for the NH Lady Bombers, a national level team.
