Gallant to Play Hoops at Nichols
Salem High power forward Joe Gallant had a number of Division III school's after him. And recently he told the Eagle Tribune that he has decided to attend and play basketball at Nichols College, which competes in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Gallant is sure to be an asset to the Bison's program, which returns all but 1 player off last year's squad.
The 6'4" Gallant was quite possibly the best rebounder in the NHIAA this past season. He has good size, strength and leaping ability, and he is also very active on both the offensive and defensive boards. Gallant runs the floor well for a big man and has some smooth moves in the low post. He is also a good defender and plays hard every minute he's on the floor. If he can improve his face-up game and jump shot he could really be a scary player in the TCCC.
Gallant was a first team all-state selection as a senior by the NHBCO. He was a 3 year starter in basketball, and the Blue Devils had a winning team all 3 years. He is also a varsity player in volleyball, a sport which Salem has won 6 straight championships in and up until 2 weeks ago they had won 125 consecutive matches. Gallant received the Male Scholar-Athlete Award for the winter season at Salem High.
Gallant told the Eagle Tribune that he was also considering Endicott College and Merrimack College. The only other NH native on the Nichols roster is junior guard Michael Salis (Nashua, NH).
Congrats to Joe, and best of luck at Nichols!
