Emmitt Smith ran for 288 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 8 carries, Kevin Davies ran for 121 yards and 3 TD's on just 9 carries and Pinkerton Academy proved once again that they are head and shoulders above the rest of the football teams in New Hampshire. The #1 ranked Astros defeated #2 ranked Exeter 42-16 on Thursday night at Exeter's Eustis Field.
It was a close game early on. Then in the 2nd quarter Pinkerton had 3 consecutive offensive plays which were a 67 yard TD run by Davies, a 96 yard TD run by Smith and an 80 yard TD run by Smith. So on just 3 plays Pinkerton got 3 TD's, gaining 243 yards and in just 5 minutes they went from being up 7-3 to being up 28-3.
Davies, Adam Olson, Sean Conroy, Matt Madden, Matt St. Onge, Alex Pacocha and Andrew Curran all played well for a Pinkerton defense that was playing without injured starter Brett Liporto. Manny Latimore also rushed for 50 yards on just 5 carries. As usual, Ryan Coombs did it all for the Astros - he caught a 35 yard pass, kicked the extra points, did the punting, returned punts, played defensive back and did the kickoffs.
For Exeter it was definitely a tough game. Like Pinkerton, they were also playing without a key player. Junior Colby Swane was out with a shoulder injury. Filling in in the backfield were Conor Carrier (70 rushing yards), Galen Antolino (89 total yards) and Tyler Grant (62 total yards). Also playing well for the Blue Hawks were Tim Stackhouse and Erik Benotti.
