Milford was right there with Portsmouth for most of the game. For the first 2 and a half quarters it was only a 1 or 2 possession game, and it would have been even closer but Milford got all the way to the Clippers 10 yard line before turning the ball over on 4th down and 6 in the 1st quarter.
The Spartans battled hard all game, and got a strong game from Joe Albina who made some hard hits and tackles on defense and offensively he had 111 total yards. But in the end, Portsmouth was too fast and had too much balance on both sides of the football.
Clippers quarterback Bill Hartmann had 199 yards passing and 3 touchdowns, and RB/DB Bill Lane had 169 total yards and 3 TD's. And Both of them were part of big 2nd half scores which gave Portsmouth a 4 touchdown lead in the 4th quarter, putting the game out of reach. Coach Bill Murphy's team won it 35-14 to improve their record to 4-0 in Division III play.
