Conant's Brooke Springfield and Allie Wagner from Kennett. They were NH high school basketball's 2 best guards for the Class of 2011. And on Saturday afternoon at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester they were matched up at the college level, with Springfield leading her SNHU Penmen to a 74-63 win over Wagner's Merrimack College Warriors.
Both Springfield and Wagner are starting as freshmen for their respective schools, which is nice to see for NH basketball. Springfield had a team-high 12 points on the game, including 10 in the 1st half. Wagner had 6 points on a pair of three-pointers. Both players won state championships in high school and they both also played AAU for the NE Crusaders.
It was a men's and women's basketball double-header, and in the men's game SNHU made it a sweep over Merrimack with a 70-63 win. Former Spaulding High standout Lucas Croteau (a senior) dropped 12 points off the bench for SNHU in the win, and in the women's game freshman forward Angie Michalski (Inter-Lakes HS) chipped in with 2 points and 2 rebounds in 11 minutes of action for Merrimack.
