"There's a lot of weight on our shoulders" said Winnacunnet girls basketball coach Ed Beattie. "People don't know what's like to play in this league with all that pressure and win that many games in a row."
Well that weight has now been lifted. Winnacunnet had won 84 consecutive games (winning 5 straight D-I titles in that span) but on Tuesday night at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua it came to an end, as the young but talented BG girls won it 74-66 in an up-tempo game that was fun to watch.
Cardinals junior forward Meghan Green had an absolute monster game, finishing with a career-high 37 points and 22 rebounds. BG's young back court of Jamie Sherburne (sophomore), Megan Kerutis (freshman) and Gigi Piercy (sophomore) did a great job against a tough Winnacunnet press. Warriors senior guard Kirsten O'Neil had 25 points in the loss.
