West Gets Back on Winning Track, Gives Shorthanded BG Its Third Straight Loss

Something had to give here, as both Bishop Guertin and Manchester West came into this game on 2 game losing streaks. After the holiday break both of these teams looked like legit contenders to make it to Durham in March, but BG lost to Nashua South and Alvirne last week, while West lost to Alvirne and Manchester Central. So they were both looking to get back on the winning track, but only one of them could come out of the West High Gym with a win - something had to give.

West was able to build a double digit lead a few times in this game, leading by as many as 13 points. But BG kept coming back, trailing by only 2 in the 3rd at 35-33, and they were also able to cut the Blue Knights lead to 4 in the 4th quarter. BG got strong play off the bench from CJ Boykin, Steve Toscano, Jordan Corbin and Jeff Lunn (15 points and 9 rebounds) played well as a starter in place of Joe McCarthy (didn't play, coach's decision).

But West was able to hold on for the win, as they played good team basketball, fought hard for every rebound and loose ball and battled until the end. Junior breakout player Joc'arl Bureau had a tough game in this one, but his teammates picked him up. Aaron Martin (22 points), Carl Jacques (13 points), Travis Descoteaux ((12 points) and Nolan Flynn (10 points) all scored in double figures, while Caleb Dolman (11 rebounds) and Ivan Ilic (10 rebounds) did a nice job on the boards.
