The Nashua North boys basketball team went on the road and beat a good Bishop Guertin team 61-56 on Thursday night, improving to 11-3 on the season. North is still in the hunt for the #1 seed in Division I, but they still have tough games remaining vs. Merrimack, Manchester Central, Alvirne and Manchester West.
In tonight's win over BG, the Titans got a big game from senior point guard Ryan Gauthier who had a team-high 24 points including a pair of BIG and-1 finishes in the 4th quarter. Javon Williams (16 points with 11 coming in the 2nd half), Anthony Farmer (8 points and played some great defense), Jake Mellin (9 points including 2 BIG threes in the 2nd half) and Mike O'Connor (was tough on the boards and drew a couple BIG charges) all played well for North, who led this game nearly the entire way.
BG made a 10-0 run in the 3rd quarter, capped by a layup by Logan Kesty (game-high 26 points) and a put-back by Joe McCarthy (18 points), which gave the Cardinals a 32-29 lead late in the 3rd quarter. But then North took control of the game, started to play tougher on both ends of the floor and got the win. BG is now 8-6 on the season, after they won the D-I championship a year ago.
"We made a run to take the lead, but then we stopped playing as a team" said Bishop Guertin head coach Jim Migneault. "Not enough guys scored for us, we can't rely on 2 guys. Jordan Corbin played great, though."
