The Moultonborough Academy boys basketball team has won their second Division IV title in the last 4 years with a 54-50 win over Littleton on Saturday afternoon at Plymouth State University. The last time the Panthers had an undefeated season was in 1987 when Matt Swedberg was a senior. Now he is the head coach and his son Marcus is a senior. Marcus had 14 points and 9 rebounds but picked up his 4th foul early in the 3rd quarter.
His younger brother Drew (13 points in 2nd half) along with Nick Sindorf, Michael Donahue and Will Burke all stepped up BIG with Marcus in foul trouble. The Panthers trailed 22-17 and Littleton had the ball looking to go up by even more. But Moultonborough responded with a 22-9 run to take a 44-36 lead with 3:40 left in the 4th quarter.
Littleton stormed back though, led by Sam Brammer (game-high 22 points) and Nick Whipple (14 points). Then after a 3-pointer by Jesse Ledoux the Panthers lead was just 1, 51-50 with 18 seconds left. Brammer got a good look at a 3 with hiws team down 53-50 but it rimmed out with 3 seconds remaining. Moultonborough held on for the win.
Riley Swedberg is a freshman for the Panthers, so they have the father as coach and 3 sons on the team and in the one season all of them are together on the same team they have an undefeated championship season. What a story!
