(Nashua, N.H.) – Led by a three-headed rushing attack, Pinkerton Academy defeated the Nashua South Purple Panthers 40-20 Friday Night. Pinkerton now holds the number two seed in next week’s playoff.
Led by junior Manny Latimore(#5), and seniors Matt (#44) and Chris St. Onge (#1), the boys in red and white kept the Panther 'D' on their heels for most of the game. I asked Pinkerton senior QB Sean Conroy who he would give his game ball to and he said, “I’d have to give it to the backs.”
Conroy (#10) himself, managed the game beautifully for Pinkerton throwing touchdowns to four different receivers, including an amazing sideline fade to senior WR James Toohey (#84) that had me in awe.
Sean’s first passing touchdown of the game went to senior tight-end Andrew Ong (#80). Conrow added two in the second half; one to RB Manny Latimore, and the proverbial 'nail in the coffin,' on a pitch and catch, to junior RB Dan Lannann (#11) which made the score 40-20 with under three minutes to play.
The Panthers put up a great effort the entire game and will face Pinkerton next week in the playoffs. The pride of South Nashua never lost their spirit even after losing lineman, Kelmy Anzian (#95) early in the game to a leg injury.
Led by junior QB Trevor Knight, the Panthers mustered 20 points against a tough Astros defense. Knight threw for one touchdown and gained two on the ground to keep the game close late, but it was not enough to counter the running game for Pinkerton.
The Panther cheer leading team, led by Coach Brandi, kept the home crowd in good spirits. The Panther marching band performed a very energetic halftime show, featuring a third movement drum solo, and thrilling action work by their color guard.
In the end, the work of the Astros three-headed machine (Latimore and the St. Onge twins) and the masterful scrambling and passing ability of Sean Conroy won the game for Pinkerton.
Next week the slate is wiped clean as the two teams square off once again in the playoffs.
