Massive Comeback in Windham

By: Ross Laorenza
It seemed all but academic that the Windham Jaguars would be victorious Friday night against Plymouth. They jumped out to a 15-2 lead early in the 1st quarter and ended the 1st half leading 33-20. Andrew Lowman led the way for the Jaguars with 10 points in the 1st half followed by Tucker Lippold with 8 points.

The real story of the game was the fourth quarter by Plymouth. They started down 11 points (45-34) but never gave up. Jared Kuehl and Collin Sullivan played incredible in the fourth. Kuehl played the majority with four fouls. Gavin Brickley drained a three pointer to get his team within 4 (51-47) as his teammate jumped off the bench in excitement. The Windham lead was dwindling fast. After two free throws by David Carbonello gave the Jaguars a 6 point edge, Kuehl and Sullivan hit back to back shots to make the score 53-52.

Windham tried to drain the clock down as much as possible. At one point they had all five players outside the three point arch just passing it around trying to hold on for the win, but after a costly turnover the Bobcats had possession. With less than a minute to play Kuehl put back a shot by Sullivan and got fouled. He completed the and one and miraculously Plymouth, after trailing the entire game, now led 55-53. Kuehl hit another free throw a few seconds later increasing the lead to three points.

Carbonello started to head up the floor for Windham but was fouled by Kuehl putting him at the line. Kuehl’s night was done. He finished with 16 points including the go-ahead score. Carbonello hit both free throws to pull Windham back within 1 point (56-55). The Jaguars were able to steal the inbounds pass and call timeout. They had a chance to tie but Cole Gill’s three bounced off the rim and out of play. Plymouth got the inbound into Sullivan who got immediately fouled with 10.4 second left. He hit both free throws to put hit team up three. Carbonello drove back up the floor but an errant passed turn the ball back over and time expired.

Final Score: Plymouth 58, Windham: 55. “Unbelievable,” was all the fans could say.

Plymouth outscored Windham 24-10 in the 4th quarter. Collin Sullivan finished the game with 20 points to lead all scorers. Jared Kuehl finished with 16. Andrew Lowman who scored 10 in the first half, finished with 17 points. Tyler Masone and Tucker Lippold finished with 10 points each.
