Bedford Dominates North 68 to 31, Moves To Title Game

By: Tuesday and Friday
Bedford came ready to defend their title in the Final Four with a statement victory over North. The Lady Titans were only in this game for the first quarter. Bedford led 17 to 9 after 1. Ali Glennon hit a 3 to start the 2nd quarter. North called a time out with 7:38 left in the 2nd after the Glennon 3 and Bedford never really looked back after this. The Bulldogs carried a 31 to 17 lead into halftime.

Mckenzie Brown really asserted herself in the first half by scoring, rebounding and making some nice assists. “She’s really been great in practice this past week”, said Sue Thomas. “She’s really been verbal and leading the way. She used to be a quiet player, but I think she’s realizing this is her last go round and she wants to make the most of it and show senior leadership.” Brown seemed to be in the right place at the right time offensively and defensively in the first half. She’s the one who spearheaded the Bulldog charge in Bedford obtaining the 14 point halftime lead.
Bedford shot 50% in the first half and North shot 25%. The Titans tossed one outside shot up after another in the first half and with not too much success. North was at a depth disadvantage with the hip flexor injury Adaeze Okorie suffered in North’s quarterfinal win over Dover. Okorie had zero points and only played 10 minutes. It was just too big of a mountain for North to overcome with this key injury.

In the 3rd quarter Bedford continued their balanced scoring while North continued their frigid shooting. Bedford stretched their lead out to 38 to 17 with 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd with a Rachel Collins 3. A Purcell layup with 3 minutes left in the 3rd put Bedford up 47 to 17 and from then on the Bedford faithful spent the rest of the game making plans for the Title game on Sunday at 6:00 pm.

North only shot 17% in the 2nd half. Taylor Choate and freshman Abigail Streeter each had 10 to lead the Titans. North had a solid season and will make a lot of noise next season. They don’t graduate many girls and return the majority of their core players. The Lady Titans are on the upswing.

Bedford is defending their title like many fans thought they would. Only Londonderry stands in Bedford’s way of back to back titles. Bedford was led by Rachel Collins with 17 points. Mckenzie Brown had 13, Haley Driscoll 12 and Nicole Tucci finished with 9.

The Lady Bulldogs can attack you inside and out. They have senior leadership and scoring depth. They are deep on the bench with athleticism. Londonderry will have their work cut out for them Sunday night at 6:00 pm. Bedford has a lot of players they can throw at Aliza Simpson to wear her down. Unfortunately, Simpson’s knee injury doesn’t look like it’s close to being 100% back. Bedford will not be what the basketball doctor ordered for Aliza Simpson and the Lady Lancers on Sunday.
