Marc Corey launched back to back threes followed by a three from Green to give the Lancers a 25-16 lead early in the second.
Trevor Knight led the charge for the Panthers as they tried to close the gap. He had a great move inside to score off the glass late in the second quarter to cut the lead to 16. The Panthers came out on fire to start the third quarter. Coach Mazzerole was stressing to his players, “Do it the right way…”
The 14 point deficit was quickly cut in half with key shots from Knight, Malik Langa and Cam Joyal. The Panther defense kept things tight. Yordy Tavarez had a pair of steals that led to scores at the other end of the floor. Tavarez scored four times in the latter stage of the third, including an impressive drive to the hoop, getting the contact and one. At the end of the third the Lancers lead 53-48.
Caleb Green and Marc Corey hit back to back to open up the fourth extending the lead to nine points. Mike Osgood followed with a bucket for South before Green nailed another three pointer. The entire Lancer team has impressive skill shooting beyond the arch.
South countered with a three point shooter of their own, Vinny Ortolano. Vinny was great working off screens to get open. With time winding down the Lancers held a 66-63 lead. The Panthers has possession with 50 seconds remaining. They ran one play trying to get Ortolano open but he was well covered and Coach Mazzerole called timeout to draw up another play. Knight had the ball up high working it around trying to find an open shooter, the ball came to Osgood with five seconds and he left it fly. TIE GAME! Londonderry had one last full court heave, but this game is headed to overtime. 66-66.
Knight, Osgood, Tavarez, Joyal and Langa started the overtime period for South. Londonderry came out with Cody Ball, Corey, Green, Andrew Coveney and Joseph Kwiatkowski. Coveney scored first to put the Lancers ahead but Yordy was fouled at the other end and hit both free throws. South took their first lead with a free throw from Cam Joyal, but Coveney tied it back at the other end. Back to back shots from Tavarez and Langa gave South a four point lead with less than two minutes to play.
Cody ball hit a clutch shot to cut the lead to two, and Green sank a pair of free throws to knot the game up at 73 apiece. With 19 seconds left in OT Tavarez got run into by Coveney but was called for a travel. Londonderry couldn’t capitalize on the turnover and South had time for once last shot. They got the ball to Vinny Ortolano on the near side of the court. He launched a three as time expired but it bounced off back iron. DOUBLE OVERTIME!
The Lancers got out to and early lead with a shot from Green. After a free throw from Trevor Knight, Cody Ball hit back to back shots putting Londonderry ahead five points with two minutes to play.
