Earlier tonight I joined Rich Flerra on his show, 'HS Insiders' on ESPN New Hampshire to talk high school football. We recapped some of this past weekend's big games, looked ahead to this weekend's games and also broke down the Week 4 Football Poll. Thanks to Rich for having me on the show. Two clarifications I would like to make regarding what Rich and I discussed on the air...
-First, my reasoning for ranking Bedford #1 ahead of Pinkerton this week..Bedford has been without starting RB Mike Collins for the past 2 weeks yet Colin Cashin has stepped up and gone over 90 yards both games, so the offense has still done fine. However when Pinkerton back TJ Urbanik left Saturday night's game injured, the Pinkerton offense clearly wasn't as effective. They only mustered 14 points all game and one of the touchdowns came after they got starting field position on the Salem 9 yard line after a Blue Devils fumble. And with Urbanik's health status uncertain for the time being, in my opinion if Bedford and Pinkerton were to match up right now I would consider Bedford the slight favorite. Hence, why I ranked them #1.
-Secondly, regarding Pinkerton's defense stepping up to stop Salem from scoring in the red zone Saturday night I mentioned Jason Hansen, Mike Curley and Nick Coombs as guys who played key roles. However I also should mention Justin Poitras, Peter Cyr, Markaveus Barnes, Noah Robison, Bryson Pacocha and Michael Martinoli. Those guys all stepped up big to help keep Salem out of the end zone in the 2nd half. And as for Bedford's defense it should be noted that in addition to Robert Heald, Daniel Flynn, Vailas, Matt Glassman and Colin Cashin, also stepping up big was Conor Harrison and Austin D'Anjou to help keep Winnacunnet out of the end zone.
