Gabriel Commits to Kentucky

Breaking news today, as 6-foot-10 forward Wenyen Gabriel (Manchester, NH) has committed to play basketball for the University of Kentucky. Gabriel will play his senior year this winter at Wilbraham & Monson Academy, and join Kentucky in the fall of 2016 as the latest 5-star recruit for the Wildcats and their head coach John Calipari.

Gabriel played his first 3 years of high school basketball at Trinity High in Manchester before transferring to Wilbraham & Monson. He led Trinity to a NHIAA Division I state championship during his sophomore year, while playing alongside older brother Mabor Gabriel. Prior to making his commitment, Gabriel had narrowed down his choices to Maryland, Duke, Kentucky, UConn and Providence.

Gabriel is a great player, a tireless worker and an intelligent, humble person. He has been a pleasure to cover over the years and is a great role model for up and coming players in NH. He came up playing AAU with the Bishop Elite, and for the past couple years has run with the Rivals Basketball Club.

Gabriel is the highest rated recruit coming out of high school from NH since Matt Bonner - the only Granite Stater to ever play in the NBA.
