Statewide Football Top 10 Teams - 10/13/15

Six weeks of football are in the books. Here are the New Hampshire Notebook's statewide top 10 football teams in the NHIAA.

1. Goffstown
2. Exeter
3. Bedford
4. Pinkerton
5. Salem
6. St. Thomas
7. Timberlane
8. Winnacunnet
9. Windham
10. Bishop Guertin
11. Nashua North

Now, here's why we ranked the teams in that order...

1. Goffstown - Goffstown cemented their place in the #1 spot with big win last Saturday over previously unbeaten Bedford.

2. Exeter - the Blue Hawks are the only other unbeaten in D-I besides Goffstown.

3. Bedford - Bedford and Pinkerton both have just 1 loss. Bedford lost by just 1 score to the #1 team in NH, while Pinkerton lost by 2 scores to a previously un-ranked Winnacunnet team. So Bedford gets the slight not for the #3 spot.

4. Pinkerton - See Bedford.

5. Salem - Salem remains in the #5 spot, as they won over the weekend (over Spaulding).

6. St. Thomas - another week, and another blowout win for St. Thomas as they beat West 38-0.

7. Timberlane - the Owls won this past weekend to stay in the #7 spot, beating Dover 41-7. Winnacunnet beat Pinkerton on Friday night, but Timberlane has a better record and they beat Winnacunnet head-to-head.

8. Winnacunnet - They're only 3-3 on the season, but 2 of their 3 losses came on scores in the final minute, all 3 of their losses came to teams ranked in the top 7 and they just beat Pinkerton on Friday night. I can't justify putting the Warriors any lower than #8 right now.

9. Windham - the Jaguars had a bye this past weekend. They are still unbeaten in D-II, so I can't justify them being any lower than #9.

10. Bishop Guertin - I had BG ranked slightly ahead of North last week (for reasons mentioned in last week's column). BG and North both won this past weekend. So BG gets the nod for the #10 spot.

11. Nashua North - North is 4-2, they've won 3 in a row. They belong on this list somewhere. Big game this weekend vs. BG. Friday night at Stellos Stadium, we'll find out who the better team is.
