Girls Basketball D-I Tournament Bracket

You don't have to wait until the NHIAA posts it - here's the bracket for the D-I girls basketball tournament.

*Note: we are aware that the NHIAA has released its bracket and the seedings are different for the #2, 3 and 4 spots. I'm not sure how the NHIAA came up with those seedings, but we think that the rationale for having it #2 Bedford, #3 Winnacunnet and #4 Londonderry makes sense.

#1 Bishop Guertin vs. #16 Keene
#8 Manchester Central vs. #9 Dover

#4 Londonderry vs. #13 Trinity
#5 Pinkerton vs. #12 Salem

#2 Bedford vs. #15 Exeter
#7 Nashua North vs. #10 Manchester Memorial

#3 Winnacunnet vs. #14 Nashua South
#6 Alvirne vs. #11 Merrimack

There were a few tie-breakers that came into play. First off, there was a three-way tie for the #2 seed, with Bedford, Londonderry and Winnacunnet all finishing 15-3. However, looking at records within the tie-breaker, Bedford was 2-1, Londonderry was 1-2 and Winnacunnet was 1-1. Bedford and Londonderry split their two meetings, while Winnacunnet beat Londonderry but lost to Bedford. Therefore, Bedford is the #2 seed, Winnacunnet is #3 and Londonderry is #4.

The next tie was for the #8 seed between Dover and Manchester Central, who both finished 9-9. Central won the regular season meeting though, so they get the #8 seed and will host the Green Wave in the prelims.

Merrimack and Memorial were tied for the #10 seed, both finished 8-10. Memorial won the regular season meeting, so they get the #10 seed and Merrimack is the #11 seed.

Finally, Exeter and Keene were tied for the #15 seed, both finishing 4-14. Exeter won the regular season meeting, so they are the #15 seed and Keene is the #16 seed.

What are my thoughts? First off, it wouldn't be much of an upset if Memorial beats North, since they already beat them during the regular season.

Other than that, I'm not expecting many first round upsets. Trinity and Salem could pull upsets though if they are able to hit some shots and get a good game plan together. I wouldn't be surprised if Dover beats Central, but I never consider a #9 seed beating a #8 seed as an upset.

The favorite? I think it's going to be BG vs. Winnacunnet in the finals. I really wouldn't be surprised though if any of the top four seeds end up winning it all, though.

What will be the best quarterfinal game? It could be North vs. Bedford. North beat Bedford during the regular season. These are rivals, and you know Bedford will want revenge. However, it's definitely not a lock that North gets by Memorial.
